Math

Begindergarten: Math U See

The Math-U-See Curriculum is a complete and comprehensive K–12 math curriculum. The Primer level is an introduction to “doing math.” The emphasis of the Primer level is not for the students to demonstrate mastery of concepts and skills but to become familiar with them and ease into formal learning. Students will learn how to write numerals and basic counting. Additionally, students will be introduced to addition and subtraction, skip counting, geometric shapes, and telling time. They will become familiar with the Math-U-See Manipulatives and develop a positive attitude towards learning math. By using tools such as videos, manipulatives, and other resources, the Math-U-See Curriculum is designed to appeal to all types of learners in a variety of learning environments.

Grades K-5: Right Start Math

Right Start Math is an award winning math curriculum that provides students a solid foundation for understanding for math in high school and beyond. Right start provides a hands-on, conceptual learning experience that meets the needs of gifted and striving mathematicians. Levels A through H take students from Kindergarten math through Pre-algebra.

Grades 6-12: Saxon Math (except Algebra 1 & Geometry)

Saxon Math is grounded in the belief that students learn best through a steady, structured approach that builds understanding over time. New concepts are introduced in small, manageable steps and are consistently reinforced through daily practice and cumulative review. This method ensures that learning is not temporary, but retained and strengthened as students progress.

By emphasizing mastery, repetition, and continual assessment, Saxon Math develops accuracy, confidence, and problem-solving skills. Students are encouraged to engage actively with each lesson, correct misunderstandings early, and build a solid mathematical foundation that supports long-term success. The Saxon approach values persistence and precision, helping students develop both competence in math and the discipline needed for higher-level thinking.

Jacobs Math: Algebra 1 & Geometry

Jacobs Mathematics approaches math as a meaningful and engaging discipline, emphasizing understanding over memorization. Lessons are designed to help students see the why behind mathematical concepts through clear explanations, thoughtful problems, and frequent connections to real-life applications. This approach invites curiosity and encourages students to think deeply rather than simply follow procedures.

With an emphasis on problem-solving, reasoning, and mathematical communication, Jacobs Math challenges students to explore ideas, ask questions, and develop flexible thinking skills. The curriculum balances rigor with accessibility, helping students build confidence while cultivating a genuine appreciation for mathematics as a coherent and logical system.

Grades BK-3: Memoria Press - Charter school version

If you are looking for a high quality, complete English Language Arts curriculum, Memoria Press provides the answer. This program “cultivates of wisdom and virtue through the study of the liberal arts and the Great Books. The liberal arts are the universal linguistic and mathematical skills students need to excel in every area of life. The Great Books are the means by which we pass on the cultural heritage of the West. A mastery of both is the best way to prepare a child for a life of wisdom and virtue.”

Their philosophy is multum non multamuch, not manyas a meaningful approach to study where students learn, not many things, but much. It is in opposition to the culture of “covering” miles of curriculum that only goes an inch deep.

Memoria Press products are designed to be accessible to families who have no familiarity with the subject being taught. While their products are readily accessible to amateurs, they are also designed with the highest academic standards in mind.

Grades 4-8: Center for Lit

CenterForLit Schools use the Socratic method of studying literature through the Teaching the Classics approach to literary education. Their resources allow teachers, parents, and students to work together to help students engage with literature in a deep and meaningful way. Students are drawn into great literature and experience how authors craft story to reach into the heart and minds of their readers. Students leave the classroom knowing they are able to take part in “the great conversation” that exists between themselves and writers from various times in history, cultures, and backgrounds.

From Center for Lit: “The task of a literature teacher should be nothing more than equipping students to carefully read and engage with great books. A student who can read with understanding and enter thoughtful conversation about an author’s ideas in the classroom has successfully achieved a literary education. The problem is, this kind of education isn’t necessarily measurable, quantifiable, recordable, or verifiable. In short, it's not deliverable. Yet we teachers face the demand for documentation from two directions: parents, and administration. This of course is always the problem with real education - how do we prove it? How do we document it? How do we verify it? Especially since the traditional methods of worksheets, book reports, and recall tests can often hinder our most important work, which is teaching good, literary reading and instilling a love for the classics.”

Grades 9 - 12: Excellence in literature

Excellence in Literature is a college-preparatory literature and composition course. Focus works, including novels, short stories, poems, and drama, have been selected for literary quality, interest, and for their place in the historical development of literature. Context readings provide background information about the author, the historical period, and the literary and artistic context of the focus work. Students will gain an understanding of the development of literature and will practice the skills of close literary analysis through essays, approach papers, and other evaluative writing.

Social Studies

Grades BK-5: Story of the World

Story of the World (SOTW) takes readers on a chronological adventure through time and cultures. This interesting and memorable introduction to World History is divided into a four volume series. Additional stories are discovered through reading biographies, source documents, and historical fiction books that supplement this program.

Our history program rotates on a three-year cycle. We use grade level groupings for history with grades BK-2 using the same curriculum and grades 3-5 using the same curriculum.

  • Volume 1: The Ancient Times (2024-2025)

  • Volume 2: The Middle Ages (2025-2026)

  • American and Modern History (2026-2027)

Grades 6-8:

  • Ancient and Medieval History (2025-2026): World History Detective

  • Modern History (2026-2027): Bookshark Modified Booklist

  • American History (2026-2027): A History of US

Our history program is built around a rich, literature-based approach that emphasizes inquiry, context, and meaningful connections. World History Detective serves as our primary spine, guiding students through Ancient and Medieval history with a focus on investigation, critical thinking, and historical understanding. To deepen learning and bring each era to life, we supplement this core with a carefully selected collection of BookShark–recommended literature that provides multiple perspectives and engaging narratives.

For Modern History and U.S. History, we use a modified BookShark framework, allowing us to tailor content to our students’ needs while maintaining a strong chronological structure. Through a blend of historical texts, biographies, and well-chosen literature, students are encouraged to analyze events, recognize cause-and-effect relationships, and develop a thoughtful understanding of history as an interconnected story rather than a list of facts.

GRADES 9-12:

  • WORLD HISTORY

  • AMERICAN HISTORY (A History of US text)

  • Government

Students engage in debate and Socratic discussion as they study the past, learning to read, think, and research like historians through the analysis of historical events.

Our history studies use living books recommended in Susan Wise Bauer’s The Well-Trained Mind, combined with selected titles from BookShark’s book lists. This literature-based approach draws on historical fiction and nonfiction including biographies, historical texts, and source documents to create an engaging and comprehensive understanding of history that goes beyond textbook memorization.

Grades 7-12: Centripetal Press

Challenges abound in education today, compelling thoughtful educators to search for new teaching methods and solutions for the classroom. Private schools, charter schools, and homeschools have freedom to implement the changes that will actually improve education and increase student achievement.

So where do we start in science and math?

What is needed is nothing short of a paradigm shift in the way we teach and in the ways we expect students to learn.

Centripetal Press founder and author John D. Mays has identified three areas of focus that have proven to be true game changers for student academic achievement: Mastery, Integration, and Wonder. These three core principles are at the heart of all Centripetal Press textbooks. Find out more at https://centripetalpress.com/about/mastery-integration-wonder/.
